Remembering the joys of my childhood in this time of war 

We all have specific battles in our time: emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, not just a physical battle, and we all want to win. Winning battles are not just employing strategic planning and execution, but also by calming the self, gaining strength from the people we love, and by just simply remembering the joys of our childhood as an inspiration.  

Inspired by the breathtaking mountain in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, this artwork captures the region’s natural beauty and rich landscapes.

The textured strokes extend beyond the canvas, breathing life into the piece and symbolizing the province’s warmth, hospitality, and abundance in nature.

This is the third painting in a series called "Rainy Days in Cebu," which is a personal watercolor journal of local scenes and landscapes during the rainy season.

I painted this during a live figure painting session organized by the Philippine Guild of Watercolorists. Featuring model and artist Ms. Tsen, this painting was done on the spot in 10 minutes.

The artwork depicts the pandemic in the Philippines and over a wide geographic area, which causes significant economic, social, and political disruption.  You can see the despair in the people's eyes.

"Feathered Friends" is a captivating realism painting that celebrates the beauty and harmony of nature. The artist has captured a tender moment of companionship between two birds nestled amongst the trees.  It's a study in detail, showcasing the exquisite textures of feathers, the intricate patterns of their plumage, and the delicate features of their beaks. 

The soft light also filters through the leaves, creating a sense of tranquility and emphasizing the peaceful coexistence of the birds with their natural surroundings.

Sometimes, that spark of light within us is pushed and hidden in the shadow.

The painting’s dark background depicts the dark sides and times. Meanwhile, a nude figure, emphasized by its glow and color contrast to the background, represents the empowered and vulnerable version of us.  The lotus flower, on the other hand, signifies hope amid adversity.

Like most of us, they go out every day to earn an honest living the best way they can. A road nuisance to many, but to many more, it provides mobility. But times are changing, and the reign of the ‘king of the road” seems to be coming to an end as more practical modes of transport rapidly grow in numbers, signifying the end of an era. The jeepney is an age-old icon representing Pinoy's artistry and adaptability deserves to be remembered and immortalized.

I made this series of paintings to experiment with different styles of techniques and approaches. I chose a still-life subject that can represent day-to-day experience. We usually start the day by eating something to give us the energy to spend on our everyday activities. I started painting the subject from realistic to total abstraction.

This was an official entry to the National Quincentennial Painting Competition "Sovereignty Category."

It is a two-way painting that shows the battle of Mactan with the naked eye and, when viewed in reverse (negative), the other heroes that followed after the 1521 victory: from Rizal to Bonifacio, Quezon to Liwayway, Penaflorida to Ambubuyog, and other unsung heroes.

This art is exciting to me because I'm a nature lover who supports every effort to conserve the environment.

Dracula Parrot (Pesquet's Parrot) is found only in the foothills and lower mountains of New Guinea's cloud forests.

We walk in this life with pain, doubts, and worries. Some are hopeless about their situations. Some are dying because of severe illnesses. Some are lonely and scared. Some are in the middle of nowhere and some are like you.

And it’s okay not to be okay. It’s okay to feel everything at the same time. It’s okay to commit mistakes and mess up on something. Remember, you will always have another chance to make things right.

Rise, just like the day. Rise unafraid. Rise and do it a thousand times again. 

Vivid, fluid strokes intertwine with bold, dynamic contrasts, creating a visual symphony of movement and depth. Swirling colors evoke the ebb and flow of life’s ever-changing rhythm, where emotions shift like waves and thoughts dissolve into motion.

The painting invites the viewer to feel rather than interpret, to lose themselves in the boundless energy that pulses through each brushstroke.

"Yin" in Chinese philosophy stands for a female and darkness. Yin's Young (Yang) emerges from her darkness to keep her stable and prevent her from being lost in her darkness. 

Salah, the traditional way

Raising of the Santo Niño during the Sinulog Festival--capturing the moment Christianity was introduced to the Philippines with color and patterns

The piece celebrates the vibrant and iconic Sinulog Festival, held annually in Cebu City every January. It highlights the moment when the Santo Niño (Child Jesus), the patron saint of Cebu, is displayed to the crowd by the Carnival Queen during the Sinulog dance.

"Wine Lover" depicts the value of Filipino culture in humor and positivity.

The cafe's gold trimmings stood out, as did the nice scene of a loyal dog contently waiting for his "dad" with his coffee. 

"Synapses II" is a neurographic art, enabling the connection between the conscious and the subconscious by using a specific algorithm or method.

"The Truth Will Always Be Revealed," 2021

This watercolor artwork was created during the first rain of summer. Along with the painting, a poem was born:

"The first rain brings forth healing,

Just like tears when words start failing,

Pain is a great teacher,

Our scars are our reminder,

That every raindrop will once more rise

And repeat the cycle that’s called life."

The artwork captures the serene meeting of sky and earth, where light and color blend in perfect harmony. Vast landscapes stretch into the distance, evoking peace, wonder, and the infinite beauty of nature.

It showcases a scene of farmers planting rice in the countryside. 

The Fort Santiago is a defense fortress that is part of the Manila walled city (Intramuros). And serves as an important historical site in Manila. 

A successful first catch of the day

The fisherman is complete in emotions and fulfillment, yet a very calming scene.
