Q&A with Kristine Joed Mendoza

-
Why do you create art?
I create art because It's a way of expressing myself. Whenever I'm sad, happy, or vice versa, I make art. It's relaxing to me and has a sense of fulfillment whenever I finish an art piece. My children are my inspiration, too.
-
What does your art aim to say?
My art is more on self-love, femininity, women empowerment, and self-expression.
-
How do you make it?
I'm in the stage of discovering what style suits me. But I love to do the alla prima technique [where paint is applied wet on wet without waiting for the earlier layers of paint to dry first].
Right now, I'm more drawn to feminine subjects and nature. My work duration depends on the size of the canvas or my mood. It also depends on my work schedule because I have a full-time job. My mediums are oil and watercolor.
-
What were some of the challenges you faced as an artist?
Sometimes, I'm comparing myself to others, and I'm pushing myself to do more--and it's not helping. I realized I need to focus on myself and believe.
-
How does FilipinoArt help you?
I'm proud to part of FilipinoArt. This is my first time joining this kind of digital platform where I showcase my works. So far, I have sold one artwork, and I'm grateful and proud to part of the team.
