The Sundaram Tagore Gallery is thrilled to announce the solo exhibition of Japanese-American artist Miya Ando titled “Vespertine Clouds (Yūgumo),” conveying the deep connection and awareness of life’s fleeting nature and its ties to time.
The event will take place at Sundaram Tagore Gallery, Singapore, from January 13 to March 2, 2024.
Ando builds on her previous series, “Tasogare” (Twilight) and “Yuugure” (Evening), using watercolor-style techniques and printing methods to create intricate, see-through canvases with multiple layers.
Through her art, she says, “I invite viewers to consider an alternative perspective in these paintings–to become aware of and to appreciate the present moment.”
The solo exhibition is expected to captivate audiences with its expressive depictions of clouds, capturing the essence of Ando’s well-established artistic approach. Each artwork, labeled with the specific time and place of observation, provides a personal touch.
I write down the exact place and time of the photograph, so in a way, the images are a chronicle of my existence and a vector of time and space.
Ando’s work celebrates exploring materials and delving into cultural and historical themes while maintaining a deep respect for nature.
Her art is displayed in public collections throughout the United States, and she has earned various grants and awards, including the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant Award.
