My artwork was a self-portrait attempt: a painting of myself wearing traditional Filipina clothing, looking at something from a distance while pondering what it means to be me, a Filipina in this day and age.
What does it mean to be “makabayan”—to have a love for the country and national self-identity?
Soft and warm tones with muted browns and pinks create a reflective atmosphere. The attention to realistic detailing, especially in the eyes and delicate hand positioning, adds an emotional depth. This enhances a mood of quiet introspection and pensiveness.
