Tess Dimanlig-Torda is the niece of the celebrated and first Filipino Philatelic Artist, Nemesio Dimanlig Jr., Tess is surrounded by artistic influences since childhood. She went on to study Fine Arts major in Interior Design at the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas then moved to New York and California where she continued to study drawing and graphic art. She had her first group exhibition at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) with the Pasig Art Club in 2008 and since then had joined several exhibitions especially in the Pasig Art Scene.

Seeing the bloom of others while blindly seeing the bloom of itself

"Malaya" means free. Freedom comes with safely and confidently sharing thoughts and unsheathing lies. Can this still be labeled as free with speaking truth taken away and eyes blinded by lies? 

This painting draws inspiration from the short story "The Emperor’s New Clothes," highlighting the lessons on the pitfalls of vanity, the dangers of self-deception, and the importance of honesty.

In the painting, you may observe the emperor in his new clothes, along with his two ministers and a child.

"Walled" is a story about relationships. The artwork is an enchantment of how a person relates to another being, thing, situation, or even to oneself.

I used a toned gray mixed media, acid-free paper, acrylic, graphite, and charcoal. The artwork is an output of dealing with anxiety.

Health workers are considered service warriors. They play a crucial role in society, especially during challenging times like the global health crisis. Their dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts in providing healthcare services are exceptional. 

"The Night Dwellers" stay low during daylight and emerge by dusk. They seem to be searching for something, always moving with great stealth and secrecy. Whether they are good or evil, no one can tell.

"Panaginip" is a painting of my dreams done with water and poster color and finished in matte varnish.

One of my early works in college, it's a depiction of my dreams and nightmares. I was supposed to do a black and white print on paper using a rubber stamp, but I decided to paint my dreams as my subject. 

The blood splatters and the scared eye is a rendition of witnessing a murder in one of my dreams, while the falling figure of a man and a leaping cat is the feeling of falling in a dream. The door with glaring eyes is when I dreamt of trying to escape by choosing a door to open.

This painting reminds me of the complexity of being human. We are primitive, colorful, and deep. We're also empty and, at times, bursting out with ideas or emotions.
