It’s heartbreaking to hear that thousands of animals are being abused every year. This mistreatment highlights the importance of strong animal welfare laws like the “RA Act No. 10631,” known as “The Animal Welfare Act of 1998,” which aims to protect animals from abuse.
Those who kill an animal will face a penalty of one year and six months to two years in prison and a fine of P100,000. If the cruelty is a part of a business, involves a public employee, and includes at least three animals, the penalty increases to a maximum of P250,000 and 2-3 years in prison.
Additionally, raising awareness about responsible pet ownership, promoting adoption from shelters, and supporting organizations dedicated to animal welfare can help reduce animal abuse and improve the lives of our furry friends.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a prominent organization, rescued Pumi when she was found in a barangay pound cage and easily frightened by loud noises. PAWS rescued and cared for Pumi, who is now friendly with people. However, she can be possessive if other pets are around during playtime. Pumi is now seeking someone who can understand her past traumas, cherish her wholeheartedly, and reassure her of her safety.
If you ever come across someone inflicting harm on an animal, it’s crucial that you intervene and immediately report the incident to 911 or the City Veterinarian. Your prompt action could be the difference between life and death for an innocent creature, and it’s a significant step towards creating a safer and more compassionate world for animals.
Meanwhile, FilipinoArtPH is hosting an online exhibit and silent auction featuring rescued pets like Pumi from PAWS looking for loving homes. This project aims to raise awareness about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of adopting from shelters.
Take advantage of the opportunity to make a difference in these pets’ lives and bring home a unique piece of artwork. The bidding is open until April 30, 2024. To place your bid and contribute to the cause, click this link.
