This wonderful subject is not just an ordinary model or someone we hire to pose nude to become our subject. Her name is Maricar, and she was my lover.

She wanted me to sketch her nude. At first, I thought she wanted a piece of work, but when I finished the sketch, she gave it to me as a gift for my coming birthday.

I kept it safe all this time, hoping one day I could hang it on a wall for my art show. It's one of my favorite pieces with a lot more stories to tell.

I don't believe in ghosts, but, oh boy, do I have a lot of them.

If we're not careful, our lives can be a parade of all the things that haunt us. I drew this as a reminder to live and learn to let go of things out of our control. 

Living with your "ghosts" is never easy, but as long as we dare to look them in the eye, shake our head, and smile, we will be okay.

"Suria" is the name of an Indian artist, a friend and a co-worker in Lulu, Dubai. He is from Kerela, a southern state of India.

We were doing a mural project during this time, and I sketched him while he was doing his work.
