JB is a painter and illustrator.
After his mom's passing in 2019, JB decided to take his mediums with a more profound sense of care and appreciation. His art reflects his self-expression, and this practice helps him center himself and his emotions.
When he paints, JB likes using fluids, given how less restricting and forgiving it is. He likes adding in familiar mediums to make figures that make sense to him--taking inspiration from nature and people’s relationships, together with the color people associate with specific life experiences and emotions.
Over the pandemic, he feels more inspired by “The Little Prince” and his journey. Rereading it as a grownup helped him gain a different perspective about life. He feels we take love, in whatever form it may be for granted, and how we miss out on loving the most that we can every day.
When he is illustrating, he tries to mix different subjects--in a way that captures the very essence of the story behind the drawing. He finds himself doing a daily practice of exploring the relationships between subjects from everyday life. In 2018, she started making silent comics--as the emotions that this medium can give is more intriguing, and the reader finds themselves on a journey to interpret the story using their own experiences.
Currently, his practice has been primarily on abstract painting and digital illustrations. More recently, he has been studying alcohol ink art, mixed media, and ceramics.
