Mayon with a gentle eruption, using shades of blue to evoke strength and tranquility. Mabel is a self-taught freelance artist based in Legazpi City, Albay. Her artworks are primarily categorized under mixed media/sustainable art, often using recycled materials, such as PET bottles, single-use sachets, scrap paper, and old-fashioned jewelry.
Through her art, she wishes to open her eyes to the gravity of climate change. Scrap materials that usually go to the seas are salvaged and recycled to be part of her work.
She has also joined several art exhibits, including the Art Show Philippines’ national exhibit RESIKLO, where she displayed “Buoy," a mixed media art piece featuring scrap plastic and paper on canvas.
In 2019, she was given a Special Recognition Award by the Light Space and Time Online Art Gallery for her artwork “Wings on the Rocks,” a mixed media piece featuring paper, old bottles, and wire that tells a story about deforestation and loss of habitat for various species.
From Nov 2023 to Jan 2024, Mabel held her first solo exhibit titled "Repurposing the Future" at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Gallery.
