About the Artwork

This painting represents Filipino's love of cockfighting and, at the same time, the artist’s childhood. In his hometown, he grew up with lots of roosters in their backyard. His father collects and breeds them in multiple colors.

The painting's composition is arranged playfully as if the child is playing, singing, and dancing with the rooster. The artist's style is based on cubism but adapted it in his way of representing his subjects.

Jason Ray is a freelance graphic artist and painter. He has graduated with an advertising degree but making paintings, drawings, and sculptures is more of his passion. He also took a master's degree in fine arts that focuses on painting and sculpture. More into stylized and abstract art, his works are  inspired by his childhood experiences in the province and his favorite songs, stories, movies, or series. He mainly uses acrylics for painting, which he finds very flexible, durable, and comfortable to use since it has a faster drying time and uses less mineral spirits than oil. Before he starts painting, he does around five studies, and then he combines the best elements. He does multiple layers to ensure solid colors; he is meticulous when making lines.
