About the Artwork

The artwork powerfully conveys themes of entrapment and social ostracism through a dynamic composition, expressive line work, and strong contrasts.

The central curled figure appears vulnerable, surrounded by looming faces and enclosing teeth that create a claustrophobic, emotionally intense atmosphere. Though vague at first glance, the whole scene is that of a feast, which is primarily inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”

The artist juxtaposes the subject in nude and places it in a fetal position, signaling vulnerability. Because to her, the most vulnerable state a human is in is while they’re in the fetal stage, as well as unclothed and unprotected by garments that shield them from other people’s judgment.
